Problem with my PC Freezing, Overall Slowness when using FDM 2h3g4o

Postby Xtreme2damax » Fri Dec 15, 2006 9:16 pm

I'm having a problem with Free Manager. Evertime I use it, Start a or stop one, or Upon startup of my computer, free manager Freezes everything, and causes overall Slowness Sluggishness of my computer.

I am unable to open task manager, or open any other programs or windows or quit FDM. I am forced to do a hard reboot.

I have since uninstalled Free Manager until I can get my problem solved or told why it is doing this.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 on a:

2.66 Ghz Celeron D 330,

1024 Megs of Ram,

Plenty of hard disk space.

Thank you if anyone can help :)

What version of Internet Explorer do you use?
Do you use any firewalls?

hello sorry for my english I'm french, I hope you understand me enougth...

I have the same problem of slowness on my PC (but don't need to reboot). When I start some s and when my rate is up to 1MB/s, FDM and my PC begin very slow... the informations in FDM are not shown in real-time (and "flicks"), U usage increases etc.

I notice I have not the same problem when I use other managers (netransports, flashget, rapidget etc.) With these others, my PC slows down but I can continue to use it and the informations in theses softs are shown in real time.

My system :
XP1600+ / 1GB DDR / Seagate 120go 7200t/m with free space

Softwares in use :
Win XP Pro up to date
Outpost Pro 4
Nod32 2.70.16
Spybot with "SDHelper" (no Teatimer)

Thanks for your work and your help

Try to uninstall Spybot, reboot PC, and check if the problem still exists.

FDM processor usage is excessive i2e1u

There are, in fact, many points at which FDM will chew up your U time. I believe I once had an .avi file having its header part missing (i.e. the very beginning of the file wasn't ed yet). So when I choosed this in the list, FDM would stick at 100% U consumption, even if I didn't open the preview tab.

Also, when several torrent s are running, I experience slowdowns about once per minute with FDM claiming all the U time for one second or so. That's pretty bad because if you're watching video or playing a computer game, these slowdowns are VERY disturbing. So I have to exit FDM (just stopping s isn't enough) to watch a film it the evening :(

Sorry I can't give developers more info, but it seems to me that FDM has so many slowdown sources... It gets difficult to identify the real cause.

One answer for all of you.

1. Are you ing big files like he (above)?

Your PC is slow, because your fdm is allocating space for your files. That's normal. Disable the pre-alloc feature, but don't complain to me, because your PC is even slower after ing your files. FRAGMENTATION guys. Defrag your hd, at least, monthly.

Surely this is only true if the Spybot SD resident protection modules ('bad blocker', Teatimer) are running?
