FDM6 new design. Your is welcome! 6gh1x

Alex » Fri Dec 27, 2024 5:59 pm

Dear s,

Recently we've released the new 6.25 version of FDM with a new revamped design (still in the development by the way).

The new design can be switched on/off in Preferences.

Please share your thoughts regarding it with us.

i have 2 suggestions for the new UI:
first add drag that's the first thing i noticed which is important to me.
second is increase the row width a little or make a choice for thicker one in preferences.
overall i like the new look more than the old one, nice work.

for v6.25.0.6016 beta :

1. in dark mode the status bar progress becomes grey until it has finished ing then it becomes blue. The grey is difficult to see, you should change it to blue the whole time not just once the is completed.
2. Once a has been completed it doesn't say "done" " completed" "100%" or "finished" which is annoying.
3. In dark mode clicking on "check for updates..." brings up a dialog box but the outside of the dialog box is difficult to see. The progress bar colours looks bad in dark mode too.
4. In dark mode the progress bar colours looks bad in addons-check for updates.
5. In dark mode it is difficult to see when the cursor is hovering over the minimise and maximise buttons.
6. In dark mode the tooltip text on the minimise, maximise and close has a yellow background and black text but the rest of the tooltips in the program use a grey background and white text.
7. In dark mode the tooltip text on preferences-browser integration-"skip domains"-edit list has a grey background and white text which is difficult to see. the same things with "skip files with extensions"
8. In dark mode the text colour for some text is grey but for other text it is in white.
9. The font size for the text in preferences is inconsistent.
10. In dark mode the square box inside the select button is difficult to see. Make the edge of the box blue or white. in light mode you should make the edge of the box black instead of grey.
11. In dark mode make the title bar grey instead of black. In light mode you should consider making it the same grey as most of the main window instead of white.
12. Use the same font and font size in the title bar that you do for the rest of the application. It is currently slightly smaller and a different font.
13. In dark mode make the location progress bar in the top left of preferences blue or white instead of pale grey as to make it easier to see.
14. Make the scroll bar in preferences at the top right permanently visible instead of having it disappear after a second or 2 of no movement.

I think, overall, you nailed it with the choice of the dark theme, it’s much more minimalist and elegant.
However, the light theme has a bluish white that is very harsh on the eyes.

I believe a more pleasant option would be a white leaning more towards a yellowish tone, like the white in the image below.

-the dark theme is too dark, the tone should be the same as the classic theme.
-when the is running, the progress bar should be blue and not gray or add an option to choose the color the wants.
-add the " pause" function to the new interface.
-remove the part where there is "drag-and-drop url or torrent file" as it leaves the interface visually polluted.

1. Row and column width manual settings

abdulhkeem wrote:second is increase the row width a little or make a choice for thicker one in preferences.

In addition to the above (and specifically, manually being able to set the row height), I would like to see manual column width adjustability. For example, I'll gladly sacrifice the width of the Status column for a wider Name column for long file names.

2. Dark mode - I like it as it is. I've not found any real issues with it, and it looks great on IPS screens and even better on OLED screens. However, se below for some caveats.

3. Further customizabilty - allow the to set the colors used throughout the theme, for both light and dark modes. I'd like to use my own blue for buttons, progress, etc., and my own font colors as well. Naturally, that also goes with allowing the to set the font sizes.

4. Kinda of agreeing with hajj_3's first point, maybe make the progress bar when actively ing colorful, and when completed be gray. Typically, gray is used to denote something not actually being used / working / active, just like in the preferences, where items that are not enabled have grayed out verbiage and such. So, it makes more sense for gray to denote the lack of activity. However, it might be better take that a step further and only use it for items that have been paused / are not actively ing but still haven't completed. For completed s replace the progress bar with 'completed' or 'done' or something, and use the colorful progress bar for active s, as I think that would make the most sense.

5. How about a completed column, adding the time for that as well?

It is necessary to give the the ability to change the font. For example, on Windows it would be appropriate to use "segoe UI" so that the interface would be like in all other windows.

Dear Alex and All,

Congratulations! You have nailed it this is the thing FDM 6.x needing. However i would like to see following changes if possible than please lunch it in the release.

1. Ability to make window size smaller and while it gets smaller all the options replaces by its icon (eg search, add etc)
2. Ability to show/hide column.
3. Ability to change size of column.

Thanks

Hello, my retinas hurt when I look at a black background with intense blue progress bars and icons along with bright white text. And the font choice is questionable.

Make sure that the theme colors are taken from the operating system theme colors. This can be done very easily now. Why fence your palette? For some, accent colors generally change every 30-60 minutes depending on random wallpaper. It's much nicer to see your program window that doesn't stand out from the OS color theme.

when pressing the "add " button if you move the cursor to the url input text box the cursor doesn't change to a standard text input cursor symbol.

File Filter Menu Still Shows “Torrents,” “Videos,” “Music” 3d60x

DuckCN » Thu Jan 30, 2025 7:40 am

After updating to the new interface, the option to remove the built-in “Torrents,” “Videos,” and “Music” tabs no longer affects the file filter menu. These items still appear in the filter dropdown.
Could you add an option to hide them in the new interface? Thanks!
