When I go to the mp4, FDM instead s index.html

1. Using " flash video" button may not work properly in FDM 3.9.x if the server side uses MPEG DASH streaming standard.
2. Many file/video hosting services allow to use managers only if you have (payable) . In such cases managers usually only a small HTML or txt file containing error message.

In step 1. you should open that index.html file and read error message included in that file.

It is a link back to the page containing the video. No error message. Just like if I had selected the page to view for offline.

Depending one which format I choose to watch the video, the address bar above changes. Copy the address to the format I want and start FDM doing its .

It depends on which format of the video I choose to . In this case its the mp4 format that I want to use. I really don't want to the page containing the video link so I can stare at it offline.

The OS is 64, the softwares are 32 because I get tired of debugging.

Wrong. It works only for permanent direct links - and they are allowed only for s of file/video hosting services. In other cases the server side may use temporary links, redirections, CAPTCHA or other ways to prevent directly in a manager. You should let the browser do its things and only in the end let FDM catch the .

For FF do use flashgot it will solve many problems because fdm developers are busy in some other works...
