Feature Request: Enhanced File Filtering and Selection for Links v1o1r
Dear Free Manager Developers,
We greatly appreciate the ongoing development of FDM and its powerful management capabilities. To further enhance its usability, especially when dealing with large numbers of links, we propose the following improvements:
1. Smart File Type Filtering:
* Problem: Currently, selecting specific file types from a list of links (e.g., from a website) is cumbersome. s must manually scan and check each link, which is time-consuming and error-prone.
* Solution: Implement a "Smart Filter" feature that automatically detects file types (e.g., .jpg, .png, .pdf, .zip, .html, .js, .css) within the links.
* Implementation:
* Add a section (perhaps a dropdown or a set of clickable buttons) to the "New " dialog that lists detected file types.
* Allow s to easily include or exclude file types by clicking these buttons or checkmarks. For example, clicking "Images (.jpg, .png)" would select all links ending with those extensions.
* Consider a "Quick Filter" input field where s can enter file extensions manually (e.g., "*.pdf" or "!*.html") to include or exclude specific file types. This is inspired by the filtering capabilities found in advanced renaming tools.
* Benefit: This feature would significantly streamline the process of selecting desired files, saving s time and effort. It would make FDM more efficient for ing specific content from web pages or large lists of links.
* Reference: The concept of quick filtering is well-established in file management software. You can find examples in tools like Advanced Renamer (for its filter by pattern feature).
2. Enhanced Checkbox Selection with Shift Key:
* Problem: Selecting multiple files in a range requires tedious clicking.
* Solution: Implement standard shift-click functionality for checkbox selection. Holding down the Shift key while clicking on a checkbox should select all checkboxes between the previously selected checkbox and the current one.
* Benefit: This would provide a much faster and more intuitive way to select or deselect a range of files, especially in long lists.
* Reference: This is a standard interface convention found in virtually all operating systems and file management software.

3. Dialogue Improvements for Versatility:
* Inspiration: Draw inspiration from software that effectively manages large file lists, such as file explorers, photo management tools, and advanced managers.
* Suggestions:
* Consider adding tags or categories to links, allowing s to group and filter them based on criteria beyond file type (e.g., website domain, date added).
* Improve the visual presentation of the links list, making it easier to scan and identify specific files.
* Add a collumn showing the file size.
* Benefit: These enhancements would make the "New " dialog more versatile and -friendly, catering to a wider range of scenarios.
We believe that these improvements would significantly enhance the experience and make FDM an even more powerful and efficient manager. We are confident that the FDM community would greatly appreciate these additions.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Anoir B. Tanfous
