If I want to e.g. mssPortable https://portableapps.com/apps/security/mssportable on the portableapps page, there is a button to the software https://portableapps.com/ing/?a=mssPortable&n=mssPortable&s=s&p=&d=pa&f=mssPortable_1.361.406_online.paf.exe. If selecting this link then a dialog of Firefox is opened directly and not the corresponding one of FDM.

If you add the link directly to FDM (Add ) then you get a hmtl index page (index.html) as . If you now the software with Firefox or cancel the then you will land on the following page https://portableapps.com/ing/?a=mssPortable&n=mssPortable&s=s&p=&d=pa&f=mssPortable_1.361.406_online.paf.exe. On this page a text is displayed "Problem? Click to mssPortable now." https://portableapps.com/redirect/?a=mssPortable&s=s&d=pa&f=mssPortable_1.361.406_online.paf.exe with a direct link to the software.
And again, the link leads directly to the Firefox dialog, but you can copy it and alternatively add it to FDM which now leads to a target file index (instead of mssPortable_1.361.406_online.paf.exe).
Replacing index with mssPortable_1.361.406_online.paf.exe from the Add dialog, the file can be ed successfully.

There are now 2 questions:
1) Why does the work with Firefox directly and not with FDM.
2) why FDM is not called with this kind of link (there are other portable apps where the works without problems)
3) why is Index entered in the filename field instead of the real filename (also works fine with other portable apps).

Is this behavior inherent to FDM or are there any (hidden) settings that need to be changed (I couldn't find any so far).

Versions: FDM 6.16.0.4468 64bit
OS: Win10 x64
Browser: FF 98.0.1 64bit

its firefox problem most of the time. already discussed about this before. firefox extension api is incomplete, its been like that since ff quantum release.

have you try using right click context menu though?

I have noticed this behavior for some time and also with earlier versions. But i have not had a simple repro yet.
Yes, with right click I've tried it too. The result is as described above.

well nothing can be done i guess then. its firefox fault here, i would go report it to firefox bugzilla but pretty sure many people already did that & yet here we are.

I use v3 and the Browser plugin and sometimes you have to choose with FDM to work as not all site will
not recognize Plugin as well and you have to do the other half I mention is right click the link and " with free manager" to get it to work. But this is for v3.
