Wrong. You should not guess, you should test.
FDM plugin is now active only in full Firefox 22-29 versions and stays inactive in any alpha, beta and in any update of these version, f.e. Firefox 24.5.0 ESR or Firefox 29.0.1.

After enabling FDM for FF30+ there are incomplete appversion descriptions in chrome.manifest. More details and quick fix follow in FDM 3.9.4 topic.

What issue? Could you describe your actions step by step? The picture doesn't show what have you done before making screenshot.

I'm sorry, I can't help you if you don't want to follow the reporting rules.

If the right-click menu is fuctional. it should be " with Free Manager" not " by FDM". It's be setting by the FDM -> Monitoring-> Customize just like the pic2 I've ed.You can see the original(working) menu items designed by FDM develop team.

If you are a long term FDM , you should realize that the extension just not work when you see the pic1 that I ed. by FDM is not a functional menu item and only show up when the Firefox extensions not compatible with the newer Firefox vertions.

At last,you can try and find the issue easily just by updating Firefox to 29.0.1.There's no need of any instruction to reproduce the issue,because the extension just won't work.I've said viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16802#p38493 and once again this post.

How long will you sir, ignore my post and instructions then just tell me again and again to provide more details????????????????????????????????????????????????

Sorry Usher,I haven't read your post.

The people who uses Firefox 29.0.1 or 24.5.0ESR should do the following steps.

1)Open your FDM installdir (default is C:\Free Manager\)

2)Find Firefox\extension\chrome.manifest

3)Edit it with notepad.exe or other text-edit tools.you can just copy and paste the follow codes to overwrite the original ones
Code:
content fdm_ffext chrome/content/

overlay chrome://browser/content/browser.xul chrome://fdm_ffext/content/fdm_ffext.xul
overlay chrome://mozapps/content/s/unknownContentType.xul chrome://fdm_ffext/content/fdm_ffextDM.xul

interfaces components/ivmsfdmff.xpt appversion<22
binary-component components/vmsfdmff.dll appversion<22

interfaces components/ivmsfdmff22.xpt appversion>=22 appversion<30
binary-component components/vmsfdmff22.dll appversion>=22 appversion<30

interfaces components/ivmsfdmff30.xpt appversion>=30a
binary-component components/vmsfdmff30.dll appversion>=30a

4)Restart Firefox(or just start up Firefox) FDM extension work again.

"appversion>=22 appversion<30" does not work as your intension.
See https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Chrome_Registration .
Multiple appversion flags may be included on a single line, in which case the line is applied if any of the flags match.

Currently FDM plugin for Firefox contains shortened " by FDM" string, not the old one, which is still visible in FDM dialog window.

Usher hoping you can help me please.
Maybe I am misunderstanding what I should be seeing in Firefox Right Context Menu

I have the FDM plug-in 1.6.0.7 Firefox 30 Beta 3 win7 x64

What I usually see in the Right Context menu (depending on scenario) is 2 or three of:

video with Free Manager
all with Free Manager
with Free Manager

However using the Firefox Add-on "Menu Editor 1.2.7"
It shows the names I should be seeing for FDM right context menu options any of the following:
video by FDM
selected by FDM
all by FDM
by FDM

I do not understand why what I see is not what the Menu Editor is showing.

I looked in Registry for what I am seeing and found a few entries but when I changed them them they still did not change in Firefox.
I tried a new Firefox clean profile and still see "..with Free Manager",
I did a full FDM uninstall cleaned temp files caches etc removed FDM registry references etc. and reinstalled FDM and I still see the longer names in the Firefox Right Context Menu.

I searched files on my C: drive for text that shows what I am seeing and found nothing.
I can see in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Free Manager\Firefox\extension\chrome\content\fdm_ffext.xul" that it contains the shorter names (Menu Editor says is in the Firefox Main Menu for FDM

its content is:
<?xml version="1.0"?>

<overlay id="fdm_ffext-Overlay"
xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul">

<script type="application/x-javascript"
src="chrome://fdm_ffext/content/fdm_brcache.js" />

<script type="application/x-javascript"
src="chrome://fdm_ffext/content/fdm_fmbtn.js" />

<script type="application/x-javascript"
src="chrome://fdm_ffext/content/fdm_ffext.js" />

<script type="application/x-javascript"
src="chrome://fdm_ffext/content/fdm_ffpxy.js" />

<script type="application/x-javascript"
src="chrome://fdm_ffext/content/fdm_dldObserver.js" />

<popup id="contentAreaContextMenu">
<menuseparator id="fdm-context-item-separator"/>
<menuitem id="fdm-context-item-dllink" label=" by FDM"
oncommand="freeDldMgr_dllink();"/>
<menuitem id="fdm-context-item-dlall" label=" all by FDM"
oncommand="freeDldMgr_dlall();"/>
<menuitem id="fdm-context-item-dlselected" label=" selected by FDM"
oncommand="freeDldMgr_dlselected();"/>
<menuitem id="fdm-context-item-dlvideo" label=" video by FDM"
oncommand="freeDldMgr_dlvideo();"/>
</popup>

</overlay>

Everything I searches and I have tried suggests I should see one or more of:
video by FDM
selected by FDM
all by FDM
by FDM

Nothing seems to suggest what I am seeing (2 or more of)
video with Free Manager
all with Free Manager
with Free Manager

Something is hanging on to the old FDM Right Context Menu names and I am not expert enough to work out what, nor if it is Firefox, FDM or windows.

I have to be honest Usher I do not find FDM's updating/full install housekeeping reliable enough to always clean out (or update correctly) all old registry unwanted entries settings, obsolete folders or files. path references etc. and not so sometimes causes later unexpected results.

(example: I had a terrible job in getting the latest install to show Firefox add-on FDM plug-in 1.6.0.7.
Firefox kept telling me FDM wanted to install plug-in 1.6.0.6 even though I had just updated FDM installed using the latest FDM FDM ver. 3.9.4 build 1472 from http://files2.freemanager.telechargerjeux.org/fdminst.exe" with Firefox and FDM closed when I updated.

An un-install and full install also failed to clear issue.

Finally I uninstalled FDM, cleared Firefox caches etc. with CCleaner, deleted any FDM folders files and registry entries and then did a clean full install of FDM (which I do not like doing as I need to reset all my settings each time). That time FDM plug-in 1.6.0.7 was installed in Firefox.)

Follow the FDM FAQ Firefox troubleshooting steps to remove all remains of your old installs. It should help you.

dko wrote:I searched files on my C: drive for text that shows what I am seeing and found nothing.
DO NOT use Windows search, it is limited. Use some real file manager which shows hidden and system files and directories. Don't forget that text may be written with different charsets/encodings - Firefox uses UTF-8 Unicode, Windows uses UTF-16 Unicode and ANSI codepages.

So I have found old strings in binary files.
Shortened strings are from fdm_ffext.xul file as you described, old full strings are built-in in the plugin dlls, there is only " by FDM" string updated there. I suspect you can see all new strings only when the plugin is inactive as it was reported here. When the plugin is active, it overrides xul strings, so you can change manually string in xul to keep them consistent.

You can change also full strings seen in "Choose menu items to show" FDM's dialog window - they are kept in *.lng files in FDM's Language subdirectory. When you change language, strings from lng file override default English strings, so such change in eng.lng file should also work.

:) I agree completely with you Usher and Windows Search has been removed from my Explorer as long ago after I realized some of its deficiencies

I have used for some time Everything and for text/date searching File Locator Lite. Between the two I catch/find most things.

I did not appreciate the charsets/encoding possibilities THANKS for bringing this to my attention.

:) Thank you for you investigations, findings and advice Usher.

For your information, upon reading your post I temporarily set my FDM plug-in to inactive and noted that there were then NO Right Context Menu references to FDM/Free Manager at all. I assume that is how it should be when inactive.

My (unimportant) desire was to have the shortened FDM version in the Firefox Right Context Menu because although the longer Free Manager version is more informative it is a long string and bit of a mouthful. AND I wanted to check with you/developers that what I am seeing is not a faulty installation of FDM on my System.

I "messed around" (for want of a better word) with eng.Ing but it did have my desired effect on the Firefox "Right Context Menu" Not understanding the full working of eng.Ing and FDM coding etc. I now assume :oops: eng.Ing is for changes to the FDM Main Application and not the Firefox FDM plugin and its Right Context Menu strings. I have now reverted to the originally supplied eng.Ing.

One observation/suggestion if I may Usher. I am a person, like many, who likes consistency (for instance, hate the way Microsoft Office's Excel and Word do basic things differently release after release. Example: File>Options>Save in MS Word offers a Browse button to easily locate your desired location and Confirm. Excel offers NO browse button so the has to either type the full path of desire location or, cut and paste it from Windows Explorer -TOTALLY nonsensical such a stupid inconsistency has never been addressed - well not as of Office 2010 anyway :) ).

In the case of FDM I would think it better where possible, whether the Developers favour Right Context Menu entries with either "...with Free Manager" or "... by FDM" that a common string is used throughout be it the main FDM application or a FDM plug-in.
IMHO consistency adds to confidence AND :lol: saves you extra work when you kindly investigate, and advise s on the Forum when we observe and report such discrepancies fearing our installations may be flawed.

Many Thanks for your speed of response and your time and effort taken on my enquiry Usher.
Kind Regards
Dave

You must really got messed something as it works for me. Just:
- close Firefox and FDM;
- edit eng.Lng file ( it's latin L, not I);
- save it as "eng.Lng" (use quotation marks, otherwise it will be saved with additional .txt extension);
- make sure the new file is really located in FDM Language subdirectory (many editors save files in system "Documents" folder by default);
- run FDM again, change language to another one, then change it back to English to force change in Firefox plugin.

Me too, as you should know from my earlier postings. Shortened strings in the context menu were proposed long time ago and I think it is a good change.

Many thanks for persevering with me Usher :) ,

Now I am REALLY embarrassed, because first time around I used Notepad++, encoding was correct, used correct extension (opened from and saved edited file directly back to Language folder via Notepad++ and it did not work. HOWEVER, doing it again in line with what you said WORKS PERFECTLY just as you said it should.

What I did wrong first time around, I will never know but I obviously did something stupid :oops:

In the interests of consistency I edited with "...by FDM" but I have to be honest I think "...with FDM" is better (e.g. with FDM vs by FDM).

Hi Usher,
Sorry for late reply I have been busy and did not see until now.

Just for info on your latest comment:

When I tried Right Context Menu text changes the first time I DID change the language and back as originally stated I should, but the desired changes did not occur which as I said in my last post I am assuming due to some "Silly" I did and not the instructions.

However, I did notice in your second post you did not mention changing language so I didn't with my second attempt and my changes worked WITHOUT me needing to change language and change back.

I do tend to run CCleaner before I do a FDM update or full install because I find FDM updates not always reliable in cleaning out stuff which sometimes interferes with the update, or later updates, (one example: Firefox plugin sometimes does not update version number first update attempt.but does second (or third :) attempt).

Maybe CCleaner flushes out Firefox caches etc. Having said that, I was switching text between "with FDM" and "by FDM" without re-running CCleaner or doing a language change and back, and Firefox upon re-opening DID reflect my changes, so I'm not sure how important a language change really is.

I regard FDM as the best and easiest to use out there for my needs and that view is based on looking at other apps (as a temporary solution) when I was expecting FF 30 to not work with FDM for a while. None IMHO were as good, one or two had much of what I like about FDM but none had everything I like about FDM. I decided to use the Firefox internal er and wait for FDM to work with FF30 rather than switching to another.

:D Thankfully, the FDM development team were very quick in getting out a new update resolving the issue when FF went Beta which was much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Dave
